Our intellectual property, and innovation law department work closely with clients to develop, protect, promote and enforce their intellectual property rights. The department offer advice on all aspects of the exploitation and use of intellectual property rights and the acquisition and use of information technology products and services as well as the legal aspects of technology transfer.

In addition, we offer both contentious and non-contentious enforcement of intellectual property rights. These rights include patent, utility model, industrial design, copyright (including digital copyright), trade mark and the law of passing off, plant and animal breeders rights, geographical indication, database rights, traditional knowledge and traditional cultural expression, and technology transfer law among others. We also advise on registration of rights through regional and international organisations.


We also offer particular expertise in relation to acquisition of rights, transactions involving licensing and the transfer of technology, technology joint ventures, research and development, supply and distribution agreements, and dispute resolution.


Our client base includes both established and developing businesses and has been involved in a number of mergers and acquisitions. The department also deals with legal issues connected with branding, product information leaflets and advertising.
